This was an amazing burger my girlfriend and I made a week or so ago. It is a great alternative for a burger and may very well be better.
Ingredients
Portobello mushrooms – One per burger
One red bell pepper
One red onion
Olive oil
Italian dressing
Lettuce
Tomato
Buns – I used a gourmet bun I found at the local bakery
Swiss cheese
Instructions
First slice the onion and red pepper and begin to saute in olive oil. Next break the stem off of the mushrooms and clean. Then pour italian dressing into the cap of the mushroom. Slice the lettuce and tomato and toast the buns. When the peppers and onions are about half way done place the mushrooms into the pan to saute with the peppers and onions. Start with the cap upside down for about eight minutes. Then flip and continue cooking until tender. Flip back upside down and place swiss cheese on to the mushroom and continue cooking until the cheese has melted. Place the mushroom on to the bun and top with pepper and onion mix and lettuce and tomato. This is a very enjoyable dinner and I will be doing it again very soon. If you have a variation on a portobello burger feel free to post in the comments.
